Good Agricultural Practices – Beef Cattle (BrazilianGAP) refers to a set of standards and procedures to be embraced by beef cattle producers. In addition to making production systems more profitable and competitive, it ensures food safety and sustainable production systems.
In order to enlighten beef producers about the BrazilianGAP Program, Embrapa and its partners are working on actions to make these procedures public and to train extension personnel on quality control protocols. These extensionists will be responsible for identifying the areas that need improvement and will assist producers in promoting the alterations necessary for meeting the BrazilianGAP requirements.
Upon adopting BrazilianGAP, the beef cattle producer will be able to identify and control the main variables that influence production, thereby contributing to increased productivity and to reduced losses. This results in more competitive production systems by strengthening the internal market and expanding the possibilities to reach new ones that value high quality beef and leather.
The main points to be taken into account during the implementation of the BrazilianGAP, at the farm level, are as follows:
- Farm administration
- Social role of the rural property
- Management of human resources
- Environmental management
- Animal welfare
- Pre-slaughter management
- Animal facilities
- Pasture establishment and management
- Feed supplementation
- Animal identification
- Animal health control
- Reproductive management
